In recent years, food and housing insecurity has risen to the top of many institution’s student success agenda. This increased awareness of a widespread problem is largely due to the research of Sara Goldrick-Rab, author of Paying the Price and founder of The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice. Recently, Goldrick-Rab attended the annual Hobsons Summer Institute to announce a partnership between The Hope Center and Starfish called, Starfish Project Hope. This partnership will make it easier for hundreds of colleges and universities using the Starfish Enterprise Success Platform to survey students about food and housing insecurity in order to better guide them toward the resources they need.
In this episode of the podcast, Jan and I caught up with Sara Goldrick-Rab after the announcement and learned why she is so much more optimistic about higher education’s ability to address student food and housing needs.
